The proposed mechanism

The explanation below is what is offered for this technique. CleaningHQ has not found evidence establishing that this is what actually happens, and says so rather than presenting a plausible story as a finding.

Denture cleaning tablets are effervescent formulations that typically combine an oxidising agent with alkaline salts and, in many products, a chelating agent — the effervescence being carbonate reacting with a solid acid as the tablet dissolves. Two of those components map onto the problem: an oxidiser addresses tannin staining by the same chromophore route as any bleach, and a chelating agent binds calcium and holds it in solution, which is half of what a descaler does. The mismatch is that limescale removal is principally an acid job, and these products are not formulated to be acidic in solution — they are formulated for a mouth. So the mechanism is partially present rather than absent, which is why the claim persists and why it disappoints on heavy scale.

Dropping a denture cleaning tablet into a kettle, a vase or a stained mug is a widely circulated shortcut, and it is a reasonable-sounding one: these tablets are formulated to lift mineral and protein deposits from a hard surface in water, which is a description of the problem.     Read on Sprint 29 re-read all four pages: Factors Affecting Maintenance, Maintenance Programme, Cleaning Methods with the whole of Table 1, Table 2, and Notes 1-10. Earlier sprints named both tables but carried only part of one and none of the notes. Supports a wider statement — our claim was widened. SPRINT 29 FOUND THIS UNDER-EXTRACTED WHILE ALL THREE SIGNALS CALLED IT DONE: zero representation debt, in the fully-harvested list, and honestly noted as 'read in full'. Five of Table 1's eleven rows, all of Table 2 and eight of ten notes had never reached the graph. Newly built: tannin and coffee deposits, heat discolouration, the 1% ammonia routine clearance, oxalic acid for embedded iron, and the condition-triggered domestic frequency rule. The paraphrase cap is part of the cause, and the fix is not a longer paraphrase — the facts belong in the citing records.
