Sprint 30 read the four wax entries this record had wrongly reported as absent: the trade body recommends a solvent route for exactly this contaminant and names no heat step anywhere in it. That is a stronger position than silence and still not an assessment of the iron, so the verdict does not move.
This is a verdict on whether the technique is effective. Whether it is safe on a particular surface is a separate question, answered below.

The proposed mechanism
The explanation below is what is offered for this technique. CleaningHQ has not found evidence establishing that this is what actually happens, and says so rather than presenting a plausible story as a finding.
Heat melts the wax and the molten wax is drawn into the absorbent paper by capillary action, which is a sound account of what happens to the part of the deposit above the fibre. It says nothing about the part below it, where the same heat lowers viscosity and lets wax travel downward into the pile and the backing.

Put absorbent paper over the wax, run a warm iron across it, and the wax melts and wicks into the paper. Plausible, and what nearly every household guide says. UNTIL SPRINT 30 THIS RECORD SAID THE TRADE BODY HAD NO WAX ENTRY AT ALL, and that was wrong — an artefact of fifteen entries read out of 296. There are four: wax, floor wax, paraffin wax and candle. Wax runs solvent first, then detergent, vinegar and water; candle and paraffin wax run a shorter, harder sequence of nail polish remover, solvent, professional. NOT ONE NAMES HEAT, AN IRON OR ANY WARMING STEP, and the trade body plainly had the opportunity to. CleaningHQ still does not call that a refutation — a source recommending something else is not a source assessing this — but it is no longer silence. The risks the enthusiastic version omits are unchanged. The trade's whole procedure is built around not driving material into the backing, and heat applied through a pile carries molten wax downward as readily as up into the paper. Many carpet fibres are thermoplastic, so an iron hot enough to melt wax can glaze or fuse them, which is damage no cleaning reverses.
