That single finding reframes the problem a smelly machine presents. The organisms live in the folds of the door seal, in the detergent drawer housing, in the sump and in the pipework — the places the wash water reaches least and the places that never dry. A treatment that circulates through the drum reaches the water and the accessible surfaces, and the reservoir regenerates from what it could not reach, which is precisely the pattern owners describe: an improvement lasting weeks, then the same smell. Because a community attached to a surface is protected by the matrix it builds, physical removal outperforms chemical treatment.
