In detail
A film that appears as a surface dries is deposited by the water rather than left over from the soil. The dairy cleaning guideline names four separate constituents that cause it and sets a maximum for each: total dissolved solids above 500 ppm, silica above 10 ppm, sulfate above 250 ppm, and copper above 3 ppm, which films and stains. The domestic signature is unmistakable once known. Glassware and shower screens that look worse immediately after washing, a haze that returns identically every time, and a mark that wipes away while wet and reappears on drying are all the same phenomenon: solids in the rinse water left standing on the surface. It matters because it is not a cleaning failure and does not respond to cleaning. The remedies are drying before evaporation, a final rinse in softer or purer water, or a rinse aid that breaks the sheeting so less water is left to dry.
