In detail
Glass cleaner is formulated around a problem most cleaning products do not have: whatever is left behind is visible. Its job is therefore to lift a light film and then disappear, which is why the typical formulation is mostly water with a volatile solvent, a trace of surfactant, and historically either ammonia or an acid to cut greasy and mineral films. That formulation is exactly what makes it the wrong bottle for a mirror. The glass industry's mirror guidance names vinegar and ammonia specifically among the cleaners not to use, because a mirror is not glass — it is glass with a reflective coating and a protective backing exposed at every cut edge, and acid and alkali attack them from opposite ends of the pH scale. On plain glazing the constraint is looser and the industry's own advice is a clean solution, a squeegee, and drying the edges. Two further limits apply everywhere. Glass cleaner is not a degreaser, so a hob splashback needs detergent first. And on a screen it is the wrong product entirely, because the anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings on a display are damaged by both the solvent and the alkali.
