Coffee machine water filter

The part that exists to prevent scale, and the manufacturer's descaling procedure begins by taking it out — a step almost no consumer coverage mentions.

Precautions

  • Check the manufacturer's instructions
  • Rinse thoroughly afterwards

In detail

Many bean-to-cup machines take a replaceable filter cartridge inside the water tank, which reduces hardness and chlorine before the water reaches the boiler. Two facts about it decide most of the maintenance questions people ask. The first is that it is a consumable with a service life, and a machine that prompts to replace the filter is not malfunctioning. The second is the one the manufacturer states and consumer coverage does not: the filter is REMOVED before descaling and refitted during the rinse sequence. The reason is straightforward once stated — a descaling solution is an acid, the filter is a treatment medium designed to capture hardness ions, and running the acid through it both wastes the descaler and shortens the cartridge's life. It is also why an owner who descales without removing it may find the machine needs descaling again sooner. The filter is not a substitute for descaling either. It reduces the rate at which scale forms; it does not prevent it, and the manufacturer's water hardness SETTING is what governs how often the machine asks. A filter left in place beyond its life becomes a wet organic surface in a warm circuit, which is a different problem from scale.

Relied on for: That the water tank is removed, the lid lifted and the filter removed if inserted before the descaler is added, and that the water softener filter is put back during the rinse sequence. (states this directly)

Verification: a person has read the passage relied on.

Read on The guided descaling procedure in full: entry through the settings menu, preparation, dosing, the descale cycle, and the two rinse cycles with the third-rinse condition. Supports the claim as stated. Opens the coffee machine as an object with a manufacturer behind it. The filter-removal step and the third-rinse condition are both facts the demand rows were asking for and neither appears in consumer coverage.

  2. Descale light is flashing frequently — De'Longhi Coffee Machines Help Center

    De'Longhi · Manufacturer documentation

Relied on for: That the machine's water hardness setting governs how frequently descaling is required. (states this directly)

Verification: a person has read the passage relied on.

Read on The whole answer, which is four sentences. Supports a narrower statement — our claim was reduced. Recorded as narrower than the question it was read for. The demand row asks for an interval and the manufacturer declines to give one, so the catalogue publishes the mechanism — hardness setting drives frequency — and does not invent a number.
